COURSE OVERVIEW
This course is for electricians who wish to carry out the inspection and testing of in-service electrical equipment. PAT training covers a range of appliances plus the regulatory and legal requirements that under-pin the testing and inspection of in-service electrical equipment.
The cost of the course includes training, assessment, registration and the examination costs.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
The PAT testing course is for experienced electricians who have on-site experience of in-service inspection and testing of electrical equipment. Operatives should be familiar with electrical systems and electrical safety.
DO I NEED THIS COURSE?
This course will provide the knowledge and proof of competence for electricians required to carry out electrical appliance testing and inspection.
COURSE CONTENT/SYLLABUS
The training covers the following areas:
· Introduction to Portable Appliance Testing
· Safe working practices
· Code of practice for Portable Appliance Testing
· Insulation and earthing
· Classification of appliances
· Practical knowledge of PAT testing and inspection
· Recording, labelling and documentation
· Practice papers
· Practical assessment
At the end of the course, operatives will sit an online assessment in the format of multiple choice questions. There is also a half hour practical assessment.
READING MATERIAL/TEXT BOOK REQUIRED?
Candidates must purchase a copy of the IET Code of Practice for the In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment (ISBN 978-0-86341-833-4) and be familiar with its contents as this forms an integral part of the theory, training and assessment.
Excel College does have copies of the book available to purchase at its centre. However candidates are advised to obtain the book ahead of the course and be familiar with its contents.
